Semantica shifts into the fast lane!

Car Rental Service Drive South Africa has received a website overhaul shifting its site into the fast lane! The Semantica team accelerated into the development of this site, which went live on 10 November.Semantica Digital

“We developed the site in a custom WordPress (WP) build that includes WordPress Multi-Lingual (WPML). The site has a modified theme build, the content migration was done programmatically and the site is hosted on a bespoke hosting solution using the latest technology, upgrading the site from PHP 5.6 to PHP 7, and on to NGINX from Apache” explains Semantica’s Director of Projects and Technology, Lee Stuttaford.

These features allow for the adjustment of the site language to the particular vernacular of the country that the site is accessed from, i.e. the site will attempt to match itself to your country’s language or dialect. It allows for easier content curatorship for the Drive SA marketing team by not limiting them within the architecture of the site. It provides for a contemporary front end design and with mobile responsiveness being largely built-in, it’s easier to maintain, allowing the team to do a variety of differing page layouts. The site also incorporates a Visual Composer component which means that a non-developer can produce content or pages visually and can also enjoy re-usability with saved layouts.

“Furthermore, by upgrading to PHP 7, we get native, two-fold performance improvement  out of the website before we have to start relying on third party services for improving load times.”

As a full service agency, Semantica was also able to implement design developments, service level agreements and continues to provide a monthly site maintenance service as well as an ongoing agile development service to the client.

And just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, it does. The site also features product search results that are relevant to a specific geographic area, allowing users to see the specific rentals that are available for the particular terrains of that region, as well as being designed to be indexed by Google in that fashion. Ensuring that before you’ve even arrived at the site, you’re likely to be presented with a geographically relevant landing page too.



When put to the Pingdom test, this site ranks with an A-grade performance of 90, a load time of 4.6 seconds and is 16% faster than other tested sites.
